Sorry about the spam on the guestbook. I'm gonna have a go at stopping it. Wish me luck!
1st June 2005
Just a quick note to let you all know that The Still are playing at The
Borderline, London on Thursday 9th June 2005. Don't miss it!
9th February 2005
The Swindon gig was amazing and I am reliably informed that the London
was great too. The band are still up for doing more if anyone wants to
organise one - post a message on the guestbook with an email address of
phone number. The new 2CD set "I Won't Try: The Collection" is
out now and is, as you would expect, excellent. A great mix of old
favourites, different versions and rarities. And a bargain at around £8
from Amazon.co.uk. On a personal note, thanks to the band for my copy
of the CD, my mention in the notes and for coming down to play in
Swindon! Much appreciated!!
19th December 2004
Finally Midway Still have announced a couple of shows!!!! They are:
Thurs 27 Jan 2005 - Bull & Gate, London
Sat 5th Feb 2005 - The Victoria, Swindon
If you need more information or if anyone wants to organise a gig for
the band, post a message on the guestbook with an email address of
phone number.

Seeing as how A Day in the Life of a Showgirl has been banned from the
retrospective, thanks to Paul I now have a digital version of it
available for download. So, either go to the sounds page or click
below:
A Day in the Life of a Showgirl
23rd November 2004
24th JANUARY 2005. That's the date!! And gigs - probably!! From Paul...
"The saga continues. Just as we had everything sorted for the
retrospective, in wade Sony Music, as representatives of some geezers
called Lennon and McCartney, saying that our fabulous spoof cover of
the Auteurs/ Day in the Life would not be allowed. Tossers. As Clive at
Fire says, "I bet they didn't even ask the writers". On a personal
note, I was delighted to see that the song is credited as
Lennon/McCartney/Thomson with the MCPS, even tho' I had nothing to do
with any of it. So, that song is now officially banned, but
little do they know that it has been released before! HA! Suckers! This
means that the value of that particular 7" will rocket to about 75p, on
the black market. It does mean that it will not feature on the album,
which is a shame cos' we all quite liked it. Never mind. Anyway, release date is January 24th 2005,
apparently, but we'll see about that. We are therefore trying to book a
gig or two about the place, and if anyone can assist with bookings in
their local area, that would be good. Weekends only, I'm afraid. Anyone
who wants to get us playing should drop a line on the guest book, leave
an email or phone no. and I'll get in touch.
18th September 2004
It seems like it's all go. Paul says:
"That damn compilation......is back on again.
Thought I should tell you, as The Still's (have u noticed how many new
bands are using that word?) mouthpiece to the world, that the release
of the 21st century is back on and I have been told to try and "get it
wrapped up a.s.a.p". So, artwork is off to the distributor's tomorrow,
and mastering will take place soon. Still can't find masters of "I
Won't Try" and b-sides, or "Fly Me to the Moon" and b-side, so guess
they might have to be mastered from vinyl, which should give them a
nice crackly authenticity. I think it could be out in November, if we
get our arses in gear. Therefore, probably January. Dec, Russ and I are planning a weekend session
soon to record 3 or 4 more tracks, which I will finish off at home, and
these will then appear, with the other 3 already done, on a sort of
7-track thing (is it an E.P., is it a mini album, I just don't know)
and, riding high on the huge sales of the comp, will probably
re-establish Midway Still as the foremost 3rd division punk rock band
in SE London. So watch out. All of this assumes no hassles, laziness or
financial restrictions and therefore is highly improbable, but I am
determined to put out something soon as "Fuck You" left quite a lot to
be desired, and the time is right now. Actually, the time was right
about 12 months ago. Come to think of it 12 years ago was about right,
but what the hey... I am boring myself here, so I'm gonna go. Will,
as ever, keep you posted on the drab, grinding hell that is life in
Midway Still, as soon as the next cock-up occurs.
Tara,
Paul"

Latest new from Paul is:
"Just to let you know, the comp. CD is still due to happen except that
there has been a slight hiccup (surprise!) in that Fire can't find the
master tapes to 5 of the tracks. Oops. Bearing in mind 3 of them are
off the "I Won't Try" 12", we really can't do without them. This means that James at Fire is spending hours
on end going thru boxes and boxes of tapes in search of (we are
assuming) DATS. Til we get 'em, it's all on pause. Or else we master
off scratched 7". Other than that there is little Midways news; I
see a lot of Dec, less of Russ and even less of Jan at the moment but
that's because I'm teaching Thomson junior how to re-string a Mustang
in under 5 mins. He's only 9 months old so it's slow progress. There will prob. be a new single if/when the
album comes out and you'll be pleased to hear it is "New Black World"
with "Claret" and "Burial Ground", the latter of which is heavier than
a 20 stone Tony Iommi. No doubt it will appear on the dormant Antipop
label. Or something.
Bye for now."
22nd January 2004
About time for some more news I think!! Jesus is a Midway Still fan!! Anyway, in real news (from Paul):
"Fire are arranging mastering and it shall be done in the next couple
of weeks. After that its up to them, but Clive reckons March for
release. I guess we'll do some gigs, though Dec and Russ are v. busy in
Divine Rights of Kings, so really, it depends on them, the two-timing
cads. Steve Lemacq has agreed to write sleeve notes so we all met up
last weekend, got horribly pissed and spent the afternoon going
"zaa..zaaa....zaa...those were the days..zaa...", so I look forward to
reading what he says." There's a full track-listing for the 2 CD's on the
discography page. Check it out. Looks like a pretty good overview if
you ask me!! Paul also mentions that they're thinking about releasing a
new single to coincide with the reissues - fingers crossed. Check back
soon for more updates as I find out about them!!
4th November 2003
Latest news from Russ:
"Thought I should get in touch to let you know that the Mighty Dec-man
and myself are playing our first Divine Rights of Kings gig at the
Dublin Castle, Camden, on Friday 21st November. The Tokyo Dragons are
on too, and as far as i'm aware we're the first band onstage, at 8.45."
8th October 2003
I've added another official Roughneck Recording Company press shot. Click here to take a look.
15th September 2003
MORE BIG NEWS!! Direct from Paul:
"Fire have basically left us in charge of the record's art work and
track selection. It WON'T just be everything stuck on 2 CDs. One CD
will be a selection of album tracks etc the other will have at least 2
new recordings, demos, live tracks, even some old 4 track stuff."
And here's what Russ has been up to:
"I've still been playing with minuteman, just back from
playing fuji rock festival in Japan - it was ace, best gig we've done. Still
playing with Dec in Divine Rights of Kings - Dan not in band anymore, Matt
(guitar) is now singing too, and we got another guitarist called Chavi -
great Spanish guy, and it's sounding better than ever with 2 guitars. We're
in the process of doing another demo which Paul T is recording for us, he's
doing a great job on it and once its done we're gonna start gigging - about
time, as we've been rehearsing since Feb 2002!"
I'm also hoping to get some video clips up on the site soon and have
just added a new photo - an official Roughneck Recording Company press
shot. Click here to take a look. Finally, if you're trying to track down some of the old singles, take a look at Ebay. Last time I looked there was loads of stuff on there!!
20th August 2003
BIG NEWS!! It seems that Fire Records (www.firerecords.com)
are going to be re-releasing all the old Midway Still recordings. To
quote from am email I had from Sarah from Fire Records "We're only in
the first stages of putting together a Midway Still re-release, but it
could possible be a double cd featuring both original albums, each with
bonus tracks from the singles". Also, I had an email from
Dec saying "We might be doing some shows over in Japan soon, at the mo
it's all just chitter chatter, but you never know what might happen,
especially considering Fire wanting to re-release us".
Both Dec and Sarah have promised to keep me informed (thanks guys) so as soon as I know more, so will you!!
16th May 2003
No updates for a while and then a whole new site turns up all at once, eh?
There have been more rumours of another show recently but nothing
concrete. Paul spent the summer on tour in Europe, Japan and Australia
with Snuff. Not sure what he is up to at the moment.
Russell did some shows replacing Paul as Minuteman's bass player while Paul was away (or so I believe) and I've no idea what Dec has been up to. That's all for now.
The Grouch bit of the site is still around. Go through the links page.
27th October 2002
Paul is currently playing bass for Minuteman. They've had a couple of
singles and an album out recently. Take a look at their official website.
Russell and Dec also have a new band. Here is what Russell had to say about it:
"The band me and Dec play in is called (get this...) The Divine Rights of
Kings, playing with Mat and Dan, 2 very good-looking Swedish boys and its
all very rock (and it rolls a bit too!). Still early days yet, no website."
There are rumours of a Midway Still show next year but nothing definite!
